Wednesday Organization - Dice

Confessions of a Frazzled Teacher

I have lots of dice. The dice used to be all over my room. This was a hassle because they are small, so I was constantly losing them or at least forgetting where I kept them! Now I have them in an designated area. (While this is an organization idea, you actually have to make it - sort of.) Let me explain...

Confessions of a Frazzled Teacher

Materials Needed:

Cookie Pan - I got mine from Dollar Tree. These are a great cheap alternative to buying full price magnetic boards.

Cooking Concepts Steel Cookie Pans, 9x13 in.

Magnetic Containers - I also got mine from Dollar Tree. Click the pic below to go to Dollar Tree to order them if you want to save yourself a trip.
Jot Magnetic Round Metal Containers, 3.75 in.
Felt - This is optional. I put felt in the bottom of each container to help with the noise of rolling dice. Feel free to skip this.

Dice

Ribbon - This is also optional. I put ribbon on the back of mine so I can adjust where I keep the dice. Now I can hang this anywhere!

How to Make This:

1. If you want to put felt in the containers, trace the bottom of the container and cut it out. I added a little glue with my glue gun to keep it from moving around. I also used a spoon to push the felt down smoothly when the glue was drying.

2. Add dice to each container.

3. For a ribbon strap, I hot glued the ribbon on the back of the cookie pan. I then secured it with duct tape. I wanted to make sure it wasn't going anywhere.

To make this even more simple, just throw a dice or two into each container and put it on the board. Just because I complicated things doesn't mean you have to as well!

Benefits of the Board:

I wanted this board for a couple of reasons. First, I obviously wanted a set location for my dice. I added felt to mine because I wanted my students to be able to shake the containers and noise to be kept down. I also didn't have dice flying all over the room when students roll them since students roll the dice in the containers. I also wanted accountability in making sure all my dice were returned. This container makes it easy to see that has happened.
