Weekly Recap - The Good and the Bad

Confessions of a Frazzled Teacher

The students are back! They started on Monday (or at least some did). As of today, I am up to 19 students. I have a couple more on my list. We'll see if they show up next week.

Overall, this was a LONG week! I worked every evening at school until at least 5 (or 6 or 6:30) and then came home to more work. I keep telling myself that once I get the beginning of the year started, I can ease up.

My Class - It's been a rough start to the school year! I have had to talk to parents about behavior this week - way too many parents! I have students with SEVERE needs this year. I have virtual non-readers to students with a variety of behavioral needs. Let me give you one example of the issues I am dealing with. I had a boy start today. He refused to tell me his name, sat in his seat with his head in his shirt (refusing to take it out when asked), threw away all of his work, kept stating he wanted to go home, and started making weird noises...It's going to be an interesting year.

Shooting - There was a parent of one of my students from last year that was shot this week. It was so bad that it made the news. My heart breaks for his child and the family. I'm hoping he will pull through. Only time will tell.

Surprise Visit - I had a surprise visit from Reilly (my former student turned author) this week. He read his book to my kids. Seeing him makes me realize how worth it teaching is for me.
