Weekly Recap - The Good and the Bad

Confessions of a Frazzled Teacher

First week back after break...and our first snow day! We were supposed to be back at school on Monday but a snow day gave us an extra day of Thanksgiving Break!

Confessions of a Frazzled Teacher

Stupid Teacher Mistake - I honestly can't remember how the topic of negative numbers came up, but it did a couple of weeks ago. Since many were interested, I did a quick mini lesson. This week we started subtraction with regrouping. In the past, students have told me they couldn't do 2-7, you have to borrow. Now they tell me it's negative 5. How were they able to pick up negative numbers in five minutes, but it took three weeks to teach them addition with regrouping? Now they drive me nuts talking about negative numbers!

Pie in the Face - Today was the culmination of Movember in our school. All the male staff members (minus one) shaved at the beginning of the month and let their beards grow. The students collected money for male health issues and voted for the staff member they most wanted to see get hit with a pie in the face. Not going to lie...it was pretty entertaining. I would show pics of the pie in my principal's face (my personal fave but thought it would get me in trouble 😉).

Overall Behavior - This week definitely showed some improvement. We changed the rules with flexible seating. In our class we use a color chart (as does the entire third grade team). The new rule is that everyone on green gets flexible seating the next day. This has been great motivation for my students!
