Five for Friday

Check out this week's Five for Friday linky!

Glasses - A few weeks ago, many of my students got to visit the eye doctor.  It was the first time our school has ever had optometrists come to the school.  It turns out 1/3 of my students (I think there is more that haven't been identified) needed glasses!  Since I work in a high poverty district, the glasses and visit were free!  Today my students got their glasses.  The smiles on their faces were incredible!  Two students in particular could not stop smiling the rest of the day!  It also encouraged my students that didn't get to visit the eye doctor incentive to bug their parents to sign the form so they could go too!

Hundred Day - Thursday was our 100th Day of School!  We had stations to celebrate.  Here are just a few...

Stacking 100 cups to make a tower.

Building a structure with 100 Popsicle sticks.

Using eye droppers to see how much water 100 drops fills a cup.

Groundhog Day - My students are very literal.  They had a lot of trouble understanding that groundhogs don't really predict the weather.  I had some "bang my head against the wall" moments in trying to explain it.

Black History Month - There are so many great books to read this month.  Check out my affiliate links for a few to get you started.

While the first three books are about great historical figures, the last one is a great refresher of manners that my students always seem to forget by the time February comes around!

Fur Baby - It's been a while since I have shared a pic of my cat, Kiwi.  She is an avid reader too!
