Weekly Recap - The Good and the Bad

Here's a quick recap of my week, starting with the Bad but ending with a positive note on the Good.

1.  Reading Coach - We had a half-day pd with our reading coach.  I find her to be condescending.  She is tough to listen to and is all over the place when presenting info.  I do want more info about Guided Reading...but from another source.

2.  End of Quarter - Technically my grades are complete.  Once again I was pretty caught up in grading.  I did, however, have a ton of grades to put into the computer.  I need to stay current on this.  At least they are in!

1.  Kids Say the Craziest Things - Here are some of my favorites - just from today.

Student (excited to be able to read the note written about his absence yesterday): Please ex, ex, execute _______ for his absence yesterday.
Me: I think she wants me to excuse your absence not execute you.

Student: What are you wearing for picture day?
Me (super confused): I am wearing what you see right now.
Student (surprised): Oh, clothes! (I don't know what he normally thinks I wear.)
2.  Staff Outing - We had our first monthly staff outing this evening.  We met at a local pizza place and hung out in the bar.  It's fun to talk to staff that I normally don't get to see much of in school!

3.  Applesauce - We made applesauce today.  To do this, we read through the recipe, followed directions, and sequenced the steps we took to make it.  We also talked about elapsed time for cooking.  I love making foods in the classroom.  This applesauce was yummy!

4.  Eyeball Math - I am super excited about this resource!  It was an early morning brainstorm earlier in the week.  I had bought many packs of eyeballs from the dollar store last weekend just because they were $1.  I put numbers on them and created a cute record sheet.  Students chose two eyeballs and added them together.  I have so many other ideas for the eyeballs!  Stay tuned as I will be adding this to Teachers Pay Teachers in a couple of days.

How was your week?
What was good and bad for you?
