Weekly Recap: The Good and the Bad

Confessions of a Frazzled Teacher

This week went well until I got pulled out of class this afternoon for some awful meetings (see below). I didn't know this was happening today and tried to prepare my students before I left but was meant with meltdowns instead. Thank goodness it's the weekend!

Confessions of a Frazzled Teacher

Exhaustion - This week I was extremely tired. I was trying to figure out why I was extra tired. I think this year I was actually affected by the time change and didn't realize it. Each day, I would have to come home and take a 15-20 minute nap in order to have any energy to do anything in the evenings.

Extremely Silly - What's the strangest word you have ever had to ban in your classroom? Mine is chicken! I don't know how it got started, but at any point throughout the day, someone will randomly say "Chicken!" They will want to talk about chicken nonstop. It's so bizarre.

Non-renewals - I don't speak a much about this, but in my district I am the Union President. This is my first year in this role. Today was the day I had been dreading all year. I had to sit in all the meetings while each person that wasn't being renewed was told. I felt so bad for these people. It was a rough end to the week.

Character - My students are really starting to display positive character traits. I noticed more this week than ever before. Some examples include coming back from an IEP meeting to a substitute stating my students had great integrity in telling her our classroom rules. My favorite example was when a student lost his pencil. For most, this would be okay. This student has had the same pencil all year and is very particular with his things. Another boy noticed his face was getting angry and let me know. He helped even more by getting the little boy a stress ball. When the little one finally calmed down and told me he couldn't find his pencil, many students tried to help him find it. They knew how much it meant to this little one. They found the pencil in record time. It was sweet watching them help each other out.

Donors Choose - My project was funded today! I am so grateful for this! I truly appreciate everyone's generosity. If you need help getting your project funded, check out my post about all of my tips and tricks HERE.
