Weekly Recap: The Good and the Bad

Confessions of a Frazzled Teacher: Check out this Frazzled Teacher's week, in which she highlights the good and bad, so you can feel better about yourself! Along the way, she shares teaching tips.

This week was our first one back after Spring Break. Since I got caught up before break, I wanted to stay that way this week. With some new strategies, I definitely met that goal!

On a personal note, I met with a banker and got pre-approved for a mortgage. I am so excited to search for a house!

Being Punk'd - Throughout the week I had many moments where I thought I was on an old episode of Punk'd. Here are some examples:

  • This could be the moment that one boy decided to walk out of the classroom and march himself to the office to ask to go home because he was banned from Fortnite.
  • There was a boy that made silly faces for my entertainment. When a girl saw them, she told me in a worried voice, "I think _____ is constipated."
  • Maybe it was the freak out by one boy when an ant crawled on him during our carpet time. He freaked out so much that a girl stood up and stepped on the ant saying, "I person's got to do what a person's got to do." (By the way, I told the boy to make sure to thank the girl for saving his life!)
  • It could also be the moment two girls came in to tell me that a girl I sent to the bathroom only a couple minutes earlier had fallen asleep on the bathroom floor.

Monsoon Season - Okay, I may have exaggerated a bit but not much. This week has been so wet and miserable. We have only been able to have indoor recess except for today. What a miserable, gloomy week!

6 Minute Podcast - I have heard that a lot of teachers have been playing this podcast to their students. I explained to my students what a podcast was first of all. Then we added the new routine to our room...listening to 1-2 episodes in the dark after we come back from lunch and specials! Oh my goodness! This is amazing! Each episode ends with a cliffhanger and my students beg to listen to more episodes. Listening during this time allows me to get my grading done too! The best part is that my students love this so much that they listen during indoor recess and at home. Click HERE to get the podcast.

Flashlight Reading - On Tuesday we pulled out the flashlights for reading. This was the first time this year that I trusted them enough to be able to do this. At least since it was dark and gloomy it was the perfect day for it! My students were extra engaged reading. It was so much fun!

Leaving Early - Since I am actually caught up, I left right away almost everyday after school (minus today in which I stayed just a little bit after school). It was nice to run errands or just come home at a reasonable amount of time.
