Quick Teaching Tip: Weekly Scholastic Dollar Deals

Confessions of a Frazzled Teacher

Disclaimer: I'm not sure if you want to read this tip if you are trying to save money! 😉 I've spent quite a bit of money on this tip but have grown my library and classroom sets of boxes quickly.

First of all, I highly suggest getting an account on Scholastic. They are incredibly generous to teachers. I get so many books using my Bonus Points.

Side note, if you need help setting up Scholastic, please feel free to email me at confessionsofafrazzledteacher@yahoo.com and I will walk you through the sign-up process!

On to the Teaching Tip:

Once you are on your Scholastic Welcome Page, scroll down until you see the Dollar Deal picture. This deal will be different than all the other $1 deals on the book order forms. For example, recent deals included Elijah of Buxton, Chicka Chicka, Boom Boom, and The Word Collector.

New deals are put up on Tuesdays. As long as you put them in your cart before the deal is over, you can keep them in your cart. This is the dangerous part! Last month, I put classroom sets of two different books into my cart (spending $60!). Between student orders and these books, I got all the bonuses for submitting $100. See...dangerous but I also got a ton of freebies too!

However, using the deals, my classroom sets of picture books (I already have plenty of novels) have grown! I find that using the picture books instead of our reading books have helped me teach concepts in greater details and help my below level learners.
