There is so much that is involved in getting your classroom to run successfully. Here are 5 Hacks you can use everyday to make your life just a little easier in the classroom.
1 - Alarm Clock for Attendance
I don't know why but since Spring Break, I can't remember to take attendance. When 9:00 hits, I get the call from our data clerk asking if I had issues taking attendance. Yes I do have an issue! I can't remember the attendance!
I solved this problem by setting an alarm for 8:45. We call it the "Miss Barker Forgot to Take Attendance Alarm." Since the alarm is on my phone, when I turn it off, I go to our attendance app on get it done. I haven't had a phone call since.
2 - Key by the Door
I keep my school keys on my main key ring. This is too big to carry around during the day. I would leave them around and never know where I would find them. This is not good, especially when I need them quickly for a lock down or for when we go outside for recess. I put a Command Hook by the door and place them there when I get in the morning for easy access. Now I always know where they are at!
3 - Small Group Supplies
Around my Guided Reading table, I have cute little benches made out of milk crates. Inside these crates, I have lots of supplies that my students may need during our small group times. These include dry erase markers, erasers, pencils, crayons, glue sticks, scissors, post-it notes, etc. These are so convenient for my students to grab when we are working together.
4 - Math Envelope
For different students, I sometimes need number lines, number charts, or multiplication charts. I had these paper in random piles laying around the room. Then I found cute little envelopes that I now store these in and keep by my small group table. It's been really convenient. (By the way, can you tell that I love my label maker?)
5 - Class List on Phone
I know you should always have a class list available. Some people keep one on the back of their id. I love this hack, but I don't actually wear my id. I do have my phone with my everywhere I go (most of the time). I use the Google Keep app (LOVE IT!). On here, I put my class list in a checklist format. I use this all the time. I check off when students are absent or I need to follow up with after specials. It's amazing how many times I use this list.
